[Rainer Wolfcastle voice:] "up and at them!"

Does it get any better than this past weekend?

Working backwards, let me begin by congratulating the New England Patriots for winning Superbowl XXXVIII. Not because I give a shit about the Pats (or the Panthers), but "up and at them" Vinatieri's 41-yard field goal with :04 seconds left covered the spread on a bet to help me win twenty-bucks! Not much, I know. But you fellow starving students know what i'm talkin' 'bout, Willis. The beauty of this bet was the fact that I was peer-pressured into making it while I was drunk off my ass last week (see post below). I had hoped my friend forgot about it by the next day, but no such luck. Anyway, thanks to the bet I feel less guilty about buying some new threads - one of those expensive thick hooded-zip sweatshirts put out by Guerilla Union [not-so-subtle plug for Tortus' company] - even though it was already a bargain at 50% off (winter clearance season) + no tax week in nyc. Talk about sweet deals! And not only do i get the sweet deal, but I'm helping to support my buddy's new clothing line. "So, I got THAT going for me".

Even better was the fact that I finally got to go snowboarding out here in the East Coast. The forecast for the day trip out to Hunter Mountain (about 2 hours outside nyc) was supposed to be brutal, with wind gusts of up to 30mph, snow by early afternoon and mixed with a little bit of "feels like (-)2 degree" temperature. But the weather cleared up and the conditions were spectacular (for the east coast they tell me). Our group of eleven people happened to all be from California, with the exception of one. Most of us had never gone boarding out in the East Coast and it was quite a rude-awakening. We're used to wearing long-sleeve t-shirts and jeans while we ride in 40 degree sunny weather - not wearing 4 layers of clothing, a scarf, thermal underwear in this "feels like (-)2 degrees" bullshit. I even had to buy one of those face masks that look like you're about to hold-up a liquor store. At the end of the day that thing was laced with frozen snot. Well, that part was kinda cool. Oh, and I finally got to see Caddyshack in its entirety! I felt like such a tool for never having seen this thing, especially since over the years i've heard countless friends quoting from it. I finally know what all the talk is about. The tour bus even showed Groundhog's Day on the way back home, which, if you're a Bill Murray fan, you must appreciate. But the best part was that I made a lot of cool new people that all seem super-laid back and genuinely fun to be around - the same people I spent with on Superbowl Sunday.

Oh, and if that's not enough to make the weekend, I came out of "retirement" from poker Friday night to win enough clams to basically pay for most of my snowboarding trip! God works in mysterious ways* (like helping me catch a nut flush on the river and suckering in enough people to take down a monster pot).
