thanksgiving
so turkey day is only 2 days away and i'll be staying in new york for the 2nd year in a row. i can't afford ($ or time-wise) to fly back to sunny california, but fortunately my aunt has invited me to join her family again. Problem is that my friend J had already invited me out to Westchester to have thxgiving with her italian family = lots of good food and plenty of "manja, manja". I had to weigh the pros and cons:
Italian Thanksgiving
PROS:
1. will probably be best homemade italian cooking/turkey i've ever had - mom's turkey excluded of course (no sexual undertones, savvy?)
2. plenty of good conversation with my closest friend in ny
3. get to see another part of ny
4. get to take the train back home the same night
CONS:
1. may feel a little awkward, despite her mom inviting me
2. her italian grandma might refer to me as "oriental" the whole night
3. embarrassing if they put chopsticks on my place setting
4. it's just me and her immediate family, so i will have that tight stomach feeling all night long = i can't eat comfortably.
Korean Thanksgiving
PROS:
1. i will at least have some family there
2. aunt will send me home with more food than i know what to do with
3. keep up good relations with the extended family = not feel guilty
CONS:
1. bunch of people i don't know there (b/c it's at some dude's house on my uncle's side of the family)
2. crying kids that never shut up
3. only person there to talk to is my 18 y/o cousin (nice kid, but only so much i have in common)
4. kim chee served as a side dish
5. they'll probably insist i spend the night = i don't get to go home and get an early start on studying next day
What would you guys do in this situation?
