oompa loompas
Here's a mathematical formula for you:
4 guys + Oompa Loompa costumes + nyc = celebrity status.
Yup, we dressed up as Oompa Loompas for Halloween. You know, those loveable midget assistants to Willie Wonka in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory? We went all out: green wigs, curlers, orange and white face paint, sewed together uniforms from painters' pants, even rocked the white gloves. But the most uncomfortable accessories were the women's white tights. We spray-painted these with vertical maroon stripes since it's impossible to find socks like these for cheap. Let's just say that even WITH cutting a slit in the crotch area, there was little wiggle room down there.
Despite all the back-breaking work and time put into this (last minute, of course) it was all worth it. For one night, the four of us felt like celebrities in NEW YORK CITY! From the moment we walked out of the apartment we were mobbed by children, adults and even newspaper photographers! From the subway station platforms to simply walking around the city, we did nothing short of command everybody's attention wherever we went. Strangers adorned us with praise and gave much props for our costumes and we must have gotten roughly a couple dozen photo requests. Our choreographed song and dance routines drew crowds of 40+ people outside Antarctica - a sort of dive that hosted an open bar for many of us. We were hittin' all the beats and nailing all the moves the first half of the night, but sad to say after about 4 Long Islands and a few scotches we got pretty sloppy.
It was the best Halloween, ever.
note: big upps to my friend, travis, for consulting us on the intricacies of oompa loompas.
