nyc and coke
What's the deal with nyc night life and the casual cocaine use? I've been meaning to write on this topic for quite some time now. In little over a year, i've been offered "bumps" over half a dozen times. Of course, every offer ends in my politely declining. However, they never seem to know when to give up. Every time it goes down the routine of offering and rejecting lasts about 15 minutes. Coke heads are a persistent bunch.
This is not meant to be a judgmental piece and I hope it doesn't carry those undertones. Don't get me wrong. I'm an open minded guy and have been through my "experimental" phases, but sniffin' junk for me is taking it to the next level. The scariest thing about it is that i have an old friend who started out using your traditional "gateway" drugs and ultimately ended up dropping out of college by his sophmore year. Unfortunately, the only thing he graduated from is weed to coke.
Needless to say, homeboy's life has yet to live up to its full potential (this is a serious understatement) and that's a damn shame because he was a very intelligent and outgoing guy. Last I heard he was still attending a junior college at the age of twenty-six and i got the impression that he'll be living at home indefinitely. So every time i get offered a bump, i can't help but think of what happened to this old friend of mine. The other image that comes to mind is the Uma Thurman OD scene in Pulp Fiction. MAN she looked like shit.
That ain't going to be me.
Anyway, for the first time last weekend I got to see it being used first hand by some people. It went down in the bathroom of a dimly lit bar located in the village. It was a tiny pouch no bigger than the size of a nickel. Since they were "dining out" and not eating in, the method of choice was to use a house key to scoop up a "bump" and, well... you know the rest.
