"but, dad... it's a Gordon Gartrell!"

Are there any cosby show fans out there?

Venus must have been aligned just right with Uranus today because after all these years i finally saw THE best episode of Cosby, again. I nearly choked on my samosa and small rice plate with 2 vegetarian sides - compliments of Punjabi (voted ny's best "24-hour cab deli") - when i sat down and turned on the boob tube. "A Shirt Story" had just started and i swear, if i was wearing "oops i crapped my pants" i'd have shat myself silly. For those of you not in the know, here's the synopses:

Theo's plans to impress his date by wearing a very expensive designer shirt (a $95 Gordon Gartrelle, of course!) are ruined when Cliff forces him to return the extravagant purchase. Denise swears she can sew one just like it for a fraction of the price. Of course, the finished product does not turn out quite as planned. One sleeve reaches the length of Theo's fingertips and the other ends at his elbow; the collar is waay oversized on one side and there's a pocket in the middle of the shirt. If that's not enough, the shirt has a sateen shimmer of solid gold with black trim. His efforts to avoid his date - who is waiting in the living room - fail and he's overwhelmed with embarrassment. But in a surprise twist (God bless those talented writers), she is muy impressed with his shirt and claims it's better than a Gordon Gartrelle. In fact, she daringly compares it to an "Ichi Yamarata".

Please tell you me you guys have seen this episode?! D, my friend from cali, and i have racked our brains over the past several years (yes, sad i know) trying to figure out the exact name of the designer the date compares it to. Seeing this shirt on Theo again after all these years and hearing the name of the designer... well, let's just say i can die in peace now.

"interesting" tidbit: Gordon Gartrell was a writer and producer for the show. And Ichi Yamarata probably made your t.v.
