cigarette burns

What a long week it's been. I attended the nyu public interest job fair this past thursday and friday, which required me getting up at 5am on both days so that i could score an interview with a non-profit/governmental organization. It's absolutely ridiculous how competitive the seller's market for slave labor is. You wake up at 5am so you can get to a job fair, which doesn't even start until 9:30am, by 6:30am just so you can be one of the first to put your name on a piece of paper to pimp your services out, free of charge, for the summer. I did end up scoring a good interview with Covenant House - an NPO that provides legal services for at-risk youth. Whoever came up with this system of clerkships/internships deserves to have their balls dipped in hot wax.

After getting next to no sleep wednesday through friday, i went to the 2nd installment of this method acting class i've been attending. It's called "performance skills for lawyers" and it's taught by a woman that in every way reminds me of the female version of woody allen. She learned under Lee Straussberg - the same instructor who taught her peers, Deniro and Pacino among others. Among the things that we learn are relaxation exercises, which have really been golden for me these past 2 weeks with all the stress that i've been under.

My Valentine's Day was spent at this club called Chaos, located in the east village. There was a party sponsored by K2, which is another one of those asian party crews that every big city seems to have. They had a good mix of hip-hop and house, but the dj sucked at maintaining any kind of momentum b/c he kept fucking with the trasnsition between the different sounds. Although slow at first, the crowd came alive and pretty soon it was a packed house. It was another one of those times where i noticed hardly any of these guys were really gettin' into any sort of groove. So i of course reaped the benefits, dancing with a few girls and discovering some interest on their part after a few brief conversations. By the end of the night, bonnie and arnold each told me that they had a friend that wanted to get set up with me.

New York City -where have you been all my life?

The only downside to the night was how much of a rip-off the club was. Granted, we got in for only $10 b/c we were on the guest list, but they required a coat check of $4 and the only beers that they served were Bud, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra. $8.00 each! Cocktails were $11 each and scotch was $12, both served in those dinky plastic water cups - not even in a glass. Oh yeah, i smoked like a chimney last night killing half a pack. <ralph wiggum voice> "i taste burning".

So another night at the library is about to come to a close, with me having gotten hardly anything done because i'm so beat. I feel the need to make the most of the 3-day weekend, but i don't think my body can handle it. We're starting to get old, people, and it's mos' def a humbling experience.
